History

In the early of eighth century B.C. when Dorieis colonists arrived in the island, possibly Spartiates, with their leader Theras, founded the settlement which took their leader’s name in the steep, embattled peak of Mesa Vouno, which is a hill (385 meters) that belongs to the pre volcano core of the island and predominates in its southeastern end.

You can have a nice walk at the town of Eleusis. You can see some monuments quite interesting for a visitor, as the roman thermal baths at St.Georgios square the remains of roman baths next to the old port the relics of the roman aqueduct on Demetros St.Zacharias church, built with ancient materials and based on a Paleochristianic Basilica of 5th century and also old industrial buildings

Eleusis resembles a palimpsest manuscript. The history engraved on it repeated layers of writing, composing in the centuries' run a long and enchanting novel. Flourishing settlements, fortifications and spaces of religious worship were developed in this place during the whole antiquity but also in modern times. This historical duration is easily interpreted because of the favourable situation of the town, a vital point from where main road arteries pass and connect Attica to the rest of Greece.
